This week was an interesting one, where we got to meet Sally Coleman and learn about her Big Sand virtual science fiction band. I'll leave a link to web page that talks about this project:

Here is the offical music video for Big Sand 'Take me Home:
'Creating a mo-cap music video in Unreal Engine' - The behind the scenes:
The animation was a collaboration with CDW Studios and Flinders University, utilising the skills of the 2D animators and the Void space to capture the motion of the characters and bring them to life.
In this session we all worked together to solve some technical problems and brainstorm on how the scenes will cut together. The main thing that needed troubleshooting was how to replace facial movements onto the Taal character in Unreal's sequencer. I had the privilege of getting into a motion capture suit, while awkwardly pretending to be Taal, the main character of the band.
The narrative of the sci-fi band is set on a 'beautiful but harsh' desert planet, following the story of Taal, who is an outcast from her colony. Her journey brings her into contact with different characters, and she befriends two 'Krikkat' (a race of giant insects) - Priak and Kfffft - who she starts a travelling band with.
Some of the behind the scene video/pictures are below:
This video shows the live action of the motion capture actors in the space, then to the power ranger characters in Shogun, back to the live stream on the big screen of Taal's new sci-fi world in Unreal Engine, then back to the live action.
